In wagering, usually on horse racing, refers to competitors that finish first (win), second (place), or third (show). Those who bet that a competitior will finish in one of those positions will collect on their wager. Wagering on all three outcomes for one competitor is referred to as betting across the board.

The use of the term place in the betting context was the key turning point in the 1973 movie The Sting.
