One of the most frightening technical developments I've ever heard of. It is one of five Thai-made hi-tech robots created under the auspices of the Thailand Research Fund, and revealed on August 16, 2000.
Roboguard has been invented by Pitikhate Sooraksa of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology in Ladkrabang, Bangkok. Is is basically a pistol, laser pointer, and a camera, mounted on base that can pivot to aim. It can be remotely controlled, or configured to track intruders by infra-red and to ask permission to shoot them over the internet!

So now house holders must worry about burglars, and getting shot at by script kiddies!
