What happens is it becomes inert to me. I stare at it, my eyes and mind relax, it multiplies in my vision. I cease to think of it as havng any depth or meaning beyond its presence. Even its appearance does not register anything, not color, form, or size. I my mind patiently wanders. A good way to piss off my dad off if he was lecturing was to stare at him till he ceased to exist. Are you even listening?

If you get into a staring contest with a cat, not only will the cat win but he will also be pissed off at you.

Ever notice that if you stare at something long enough, it seems to vanish? And at that moment, your brain makes your eyes unconsciously move slightly so it reappears? It's freaky. Try it.
