Republican euphemism for "
racist,
sexist white guy". During the early-to-mid-
1990s, such characters liked to claim that
white males were the most
discriminated-against
minority in
history, conveniently overlooking
Blacks,
women,
Jews,
Hispanics,
Asians,
LGBTQ+ people, and, in fact, every other
minority group on the planet.
It stemmed largely from a feeling of
helplessness during a period of
economic instability, from a
radicalization of the
American
right-wing, and from an
upsurge in American
racism (on all racial lines).
The most beloved
leaders of the Angry White Males were
Pat Buchanan,
Jesse Helms,
Newt Gingrich,
Rush Limbaugh,
Bill O'Reilly,
Sean Hannity, and
David Duke.
