Famously
schlocky
movie, released in 1972. Part
comedy, part
science fiction, part
blaxploitation flick. It was directed by
Lee Frost and written by
Wes Bishop and
James Gordon White.
The
plot revolves around a
wealthy racist, played by
Ray Milland, who is dying and works out a
scheme to
transplant his
head onto another man's
body. When his
health starts to rapidly decline, his
doctors transplant his head onto the only available
candidate -- a
black death row inmate played by
pro football player Rosey Grier.
Hijinx, as they say, ensue. Though the plot is generally
derided by most critics, the
dialogue between Milland and Grier is considered pretty good.
Other
prominent actors in the cast include
Don Marshall,
Roger Perry,
Kathrine Baumann, and
Chelsea Brown.
Rick Baker, best known for his award-winning
makeup work on more
films than you can think of, puts in an
appearance as a
gorilla.
