A game work by the infamous
Shigeru Miyamoto, who also brought us the
Zelda Series of games.
This game series, pre-3d,is the quintessential platformer. Gameplay involves Jumping, Hitting blocks with your head, stomping turtles with your feet, and eating mushrooms to get bigger.
Super Mario Bros. is the first in the series, which expands to Super Mario Brothers 2(NES), Super Mario Brothers 3(NES), Super Mario World(SNES), Super Mario Land(GB), Super Mario Land 2(GB) Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island(SNES), and Super Mario 64(N64). And that's just the direct lineage of the original.
It is of note that Mario, the protagonist of the series, did not originate from the first game in this series, but can be traced back to being the villian in Miyamoto's first hit game, Donkey Kong.
