Petey Piper was a viper
dreamt he was a windshield wiper
Slithered all day in the grass
In his dreams he lay on glass

Petey, being quite observant
Understood he was a serpent
And not a rod turned on a gear
Designed to keep a windshield clear

But still he could not help his dreaming
Over windshield glass a-gleaming
Droplets dropping, swarming, teeming
Sopping never-stopping-seeming

Rivulets of rain a-streaming
Through them sunlight coldly beaming
Not enough to keep him warm
When wiping in the thunderstorm

Petey woke up with a shiver
In the grass beside a river
Running water sounds had fed
The windshield wiper in his head

No other path was there to take
Contentedly he'd be a snake
From his life he would not wither
In the grass he'd stay to slither

Petey Piper, still a viper
dreamt he was a windshield wiper
Slithered all day in the grass
In his dreams he lay on glass
