Matt Wagner once groused about being assigned to illustrate Dr. Mid-Nite for a guide to the DC Universe. "Of all the
superheroes they could have given me," he grumbled, "the one they pick is a guy whose
power is that he
can't see during the day." He also expressed dismay that the Doctor chose to name his animal sidekick "Hooty", a name that admittedly fails to strike fear into the hearts of criminals.
Nevertheless, Dr. Mid-Nite's dark green hood and cape, sinister red-tinted goggles, red jerkin, brown falconer's gloves, and the yellow crescent moon on his forehead makes the costume of this improbable hero one of the more visually striking in comics history. Doc was definitely someone you didn't want to meet in a dark alley.
