At 22,841 feet, Aconcagua is the highest point in the Western Hemisphere. As such, it is one of "The Seven Summits". Located in Argentina, it is part of the Andes mountain range.

The first ascent of Aconcagua was made in 1896-1897 by an English expedition. It was done via the route now known as the Normal Route. This is a non-technical ascent. In 1934, a Polish expedition succeeded in reaching the summit by climbing a glacier which has become known as the Polish Glacier and their route -- the most popular technical route -- is now known as the Polish Glacier Route.
