Being an acronym, VIFF stands for all sorts of other things, too. "Very Indifferent Fungal Flavours" for example, or even "Vanishing Iquanas of Fort France". In this case, I'm going to talk about the Vancouver International Film Festival.
This festival happens yearly, generally over a couple of weeks at the end of September and the beginning of October. The 2002 festival (its 21st) included more than 300 films from around the world. Due to its location on the west coast of North America, and the large Asian community in and around the Vancouver area, the Vancouver festival tends to feature a larger percentage of Asian films than other festivals of its size.
They're building a new headquarters in downtown Vancouver, underneath a large apartment building. It will include a 170+ seat theatre, multi-media art gallery, meeting rooms, exhibition space, screening rooms, and editing facilities. They expect it to be finished in the fall of 2004.
