A short
novel by
John Steinbeck,
precursory to his most
noted work
The Grapes of Wrath, about two
migrant workers in the
US durring the
great depression. Rather
touching and full of
symbolism, it makes for a good but
short read. The two main
characters are Lenny, who is very large and
mentally handicapped, and George, who is kind of smallish but on the smarter side. Mr. Steinbeck points out how
harsh the life of the
migrant worker could be, along with how
lonely it could be. Not only does he provide
social commentary, but also
insight into
human nature. A must read for anyone, especially those interested in
American literature.
The book was also made into a
movie, however, the movie wasn't really as good as the book. A fairly good movie, but it doesn't quite do justice to the
book.
