You can use this icing for a variety of recipes, but it was really designed for cakes and a light taste on cookies; it will not be thick cake icing like you see on Betty Crocker boxes. It can be thickened by adding extra powdered sugar, and of course thinned with extra water. As a variation, try replacing the vanilla extract with almond, maple, or any other preferred extract if you'd like to specially flavor your icing, and color it with food coloring. This icing is a great way to add sweetness to your baking without having to use store-bought icing.
