Henry Evans - Botanical Artist
Henry Evans (1918-1990) was an printer and artist from the San Francisco bay area. He started as a rare book dealer at the Porpoise Bookshop. He then caught the "printing" bug, and began issuing books and lithographs under the titlePeregrine Press. Evans printed the works of other bay area artist before he began printing his own works. He cut linoleum blocks of botanical prints in 1958 and continued throughout his life. His works can be found in many museums, including the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library and others. Currently, many of his portfolios can be viewed at the McCune Rare Book and Art Collection in the John F Kennedy Library, 505 Santa Clara St, Vallejo, CA 94590 or can be viewed online at their website: http://www.mccunecollection.org.
