Born May 10, 1977 in Cincinnati, OH, gymnast Amanda Borden spent six years on the U.S. National Team. After trying soccer and T-ball, she began gymnastics lessons in 1984 and advanced quickly. At the age of 14 she began Elite-level competition, and the following year entered the senior age group. Despite finishing fifth in the 1992 Olympic Trials, Borden did not get to attend those Games because two previously injured gymnasts were considered qualified despite not competing in the trials. She continued competing at an international level for the next several years, and graduated from Finneytown High School in 1994 as Homecoming Queen and a member of the honor roll, National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society. Borden was selected as co-captain (with Jayce Phelps) for the gold medal-winning 1996 Olympic team, and after the Games became a student at Mount St. Joseph College. Her hobbies include bicycling, reading, shopping, and playing computer games.
