Well, it's finally happened. The government of the United States of America has finally decided that they can get me killed by foreigners if the real soldiers get killed. Huzzah.
I'm trying to think of benefits to this. On the one hand, if I need to get into a club and have forgotten my driver's license, it will surely come in handy. I can see how that would play out:
Hey, listen, punk, I can die in combat in some shit-hole country you can't even pronounce to keep your worthless ass free in a decadent society, DAMNED if I can't get some dancing in before I go!
At what point did we decide a free country could call on its citizens to risk death regardless of their consent or political creed? When did this seem like a good idea? Hey! Let's take the people who weren't in favor of this war in the first place and give them guns! I can't imagine it.
There hasn't been a draft since 1973. If I'm lucky, there won't be one until 2013 at the earliest. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed and don't try to keep me out of clubs.
