To drink a glass full of beverage, usually beer, in one swallow. Chugging quickly is the crucial skill involved in boat races, unless one enjoys taking showers in one's beer. Chugging does not describe the action of taking a mere shot of alcohol.

Songs or chants may accompany the act of chugging, especially if the chugger is reluctant. A popular chant is "Down in one!"; this may also be sung to the tune of "Stars and Stripes Forever." In the Hash House Harriers, where chugging occurs quite often, such songs and chants are generally lewd:

Why are we waiting?
Could be masturbating...
Oh, why are we waiting so fucking long?

Why are we waiting?
Could be fornicating...
Oh why are we waiting? Oh why are we waiting?
Oh why are we wai----ting so fuck---ing-----long?

Followed by the chant, "Drink it down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down..."

In Japan, a common chant is "Iki Iki Iki Iki Hai Hai Hai!"

That's what it sounded like, at any rate.
