'Dweeb' is another word with the same general meaning as dork, geek, or nerd. It tends to have less intellectual overtones, although all of these started out as base insults, and only over time becoming more positive. Dweeb is perhaps the newest of these, first being recorded in 1968.

It is likely that 'dweeb' first appeared as a variant of 'feeb' (short for feeble), and generally referred to anyone who was weak, stupid, socially inept, unfashionable, or otherwise uninteresting. This often included those who were studious and sober, and it is slowly becoming more common to use it to refer to a nerd (in the positive sense), although it is still often used as a pure insult.
