Four models (marks I to IV, available in endless permutations of trim and engine size) of car sold and mainly manufactured in the UK by Ford (basically identical to the Taunus produced in Germany and sold across Western Europe) from the mid-1960s to around 1980. The best selling and hence canonical dull, mid-range middle class saloon car of its era (although there were souped up and rally versions), named for the venue of the 1964 Winter Olympics. It was replaced by the even more boring Sierra. By the end of the run the early models - the finned Mark I in particular - seemed quite characterful, though, and Tom Robinson wished in song that he could have a grey one, "whiplash aerial, racing trim".
