Every teenage girl needs lip gloss. Its a fact! Lip Smackers are one of the most widely used lip glosses in the world, which is probably due to the fact that they're available in such a huge range of forms and flavours.

Although Bonne Bell has been around since 1927, the company only started manufacturing flavoured Lip Smackers in 1973, when they released the Strawberry flavour. Before then, Bonne Bell had made non-flavoured lip gloss which they targetted towards the 'outdoor person'.

For those who don't know, Lip Smackers add shine to lips, give them a yummy flavour that you just cant get enough of and add moisture to prevent dry, chapped lips. The ingredients of your typical lip smacker usually include: Castor oil, beeswax, cetyl acetate, candelilla wax, flavouring, polybutene, sesame oil, ozokerite, carnauba, mineral oil, acetylated lanolin alcohol and hydrogenated soy glycerides. It's the beeswax that gives the lip smacker its structure. However, in forms like the 'sponge-on sparkler', which is more of a liquid, I don't believe you would find it contains much (if any) beeswax. Bonne Bell do not test any of their products on animals.

Lip smackers are made in Ohio, USA, and can also be found in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Finland, Nigeria, Guatemala, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Taiwan, Norway, Panama, Puerto Rico, Qatar, United Kingdom, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.

Sparkle Colorglaze for Lips  Just like the lip frost, but it adds a sheer colour to your lips.

  • Hot Pink Melon

  • Pink Strawberry Sparx
  • Red Raspberry Rave (I'm not completely sure on this one)

Sponge-on-Sparklers:  Definately my favourite range! They're about twice the length of your average smacker, and the gloss inside is liquidy. A good choice if you just want a gloss that will add moisture to your lips.

  • Pink Grapefruit Squeeze
  • Grape Gulp
  • Strawberry Splash
  • Lemon Twist
  • Smashini Passion Fruit

Flip Gloss:  The cute container this comes in is more appealling than the gloss itself, but it's fun to fiddle around with in maths class.

  • Strawberry Breeze*
  • Triple Berry Cocktail
  • Caribbean Cooler
  • Vanilla Frost*
  • Blueberry Splash
  • Black Raspberry Ripple

    * - Tried the flavour and liked it
    ** - A damn good flavour
~ - I don't recommend you buy this flavour. Definate shudder material.

Being a teenager myself, I always carry a lip smacker on me. Alot of my female friends use them too. But more interestingly, it's not just the girls that love the flavours. So many teenage boys I know treat the stuff like cocaine -- they sniff the flavours and decide what they like. And if they're lucky, their favourite flavour just might be on the lips of the next girl they kiss!
