The
Bose Corporation was founded in
1964 by
Amar Bose, a
professor in
Course 6 at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The company
makes
high-quality sound systems, including
speakers
and the
Wave radio. The company
hires extensively from
MIT, and advertises weekly in
the Tech, the local
student newspaper. One of the
little-known benefits of an
MIT education is discounts on some
Bose products.
Professor Bose remains an active part of MIT, and
teaches the popular 6.312, a course on Acoustic design and principles, every year. His son, Vanu Bose, is also an MIT graduate, and has founded another
sound-based company, Vanu, Inc., creating software radios.
