A private
liberal arts college in
Westminster, MD. Enrollment is about 1600 students, and there are 90
full-time professors. Offers 23
majors, and special programs in
deaf eduction,
engineering studies,
forestry studies,
pre-law,
pre-med, ministerial studies, and
museum studies. A "Washington Semester" program is offered with
American University, and the school has a sister campus in
Budapest,
Hungary. Athletes compete in the
NCAA's Division III and the
Centennial Conference, and the school is the location of the summer training camp for the
Baltimore Ravens football team. The 160-
acre campus has 40 buildings, including six on the
National Historic Register.
Update
On July 1, 2002, the school changed its name to
McDaniel College. The announcement of the change had been made in January 2002, and the college did a lot of scrambling to soothe disgruntled alumni who opposed the change. The
board of trustees had already decided to go ahead before they ever made their announcement, and the new name, in honor of
William Roberts McDaniel, was selected and announced in April 2002.
