Guess what?

Prop 22 passed on March 7, 2000.

Hmm. That really sucks for Californians gay and straight alike.

Possibly worse was proposition 21 which also passed.

Here is the full text of the thing:

PROPOSED LAW (make that law

SECTION 1. This act may be cited as the "California Defense of Marriage Act."

SECTION 2. Section 308.5 is added to the Family Code, to read:

308.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

Here is an example of someone who supported the measure from nytimes:

"Probably it's my small town upbringing and the fact that I've been going to church all my life," said Lewis Cain of Sacramento, who voted for Proposition 22. "It just seemed like the right thing to do."

Good for him. It is the good thinkers who will lead this nation to freedom.
