Term used by people in Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12-step fellowships for someone who is reaching out to help a newcomer with alternate motives than to actually help the newcomer to get sober or abstinent from acting out on addictive behaviors. The alternate motive is usually sex or a possibility of having a relationship, and these people who does 13 stepping someone is usually sicker than the person they are trying to help, hence taking advantage of a newcomer's vulnerability and lack of insight and knowledge about what is getting clean and sober all about.
