Seattle-based
alternative record label formed in
1988 by Jonathan Poneman and Bruce Pavitt. Notorious for all manner of reasons, including the aforementioned
Nirvana records they released. Became very big when
grunge broke, then became very broke. Sold Nirvana to
David Geffen, became not so broke.
Continues to be a worthy label with many fine bands, even if their sales aren't quite what they used to be. Re-started the legendary Sub Pop Singles Club in 1998.
