As Blush Response, our resident census-taker, is busy writing up his thesis I have stepped into the role for this year.

As with previous years, the results from this census mostly come from the Everything People Registry (EPR). This census can only be as reliable and contemporaneous as noders are prepared to forward their details and editors update the registries. To avoid double-counting I did not count people as residing in areas they have moved away from. Of course there are many other factors that increase the propensity for noders of one area to advertise their presence than those in another, such as an active and well publicised social life.

As of 15 February 2005, there were 1,869 individuals identified on the noderbase through the EPR and other linked registries. This figure is up 246 (15.1%) since the last census held in July 2003, which roughly translates into a 12.5% annualised growth rate, which perhaps puts the realm of E2 up with Uganda and Tanzania for having the fastest population growth rates in the world. However this growth rate is slowing - from 2002-2003 the number of Everythingians grew by 24.4%.

The United States remains the country of residence for the most number of noders, dominating 54.2% of the noderbase (slightly down a percentage point from 2003), or 1,013 users. Canada remains in second spot with 205 users, increasing its lead over the 172 strong United Kingdom contingent. Other countries with a significant presence are Australia (127), New Zealand (31), Ireland (27), Norway (20) and Finland (86 if you include all Finns - which is what I do - or 48 if you exclude the inactive). We have new entries from Peru, South Korea, Switzerland (hiding in the mountains all this time), the Australian state of Tasmania, and the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and (finally) Manitoba!

Amongst the American states, California reigns uber alles despite only gaining one additional noder in twenty months. Maryland suprisingly has shot up from sixth to second place, and strong growth has been seen in Missouri, New Jersey and Arizona, while Georgia and Tennessee saw the greatest falls. And again, nary a peep coming out of Vermont.
